EASA Night Rating (in PA-28 or Pipistrel SW121)

The night rating is the perfect next step after gaining your PPL(A) or LAPL(A) and is a must for those short winter days so you can return safely to your home airfield. Once you have qualified there are no renewal or revalidation requirements*.  And there is no test at the end of the course.

Student pilots may add the Night Rating to their PPL or LAPL by completing the necessary training prior to licence application.  It should be timed to be at the end of your licence course so that you are comfortable with solo circuits and navigation.

For those embarking on Commercial Flight Training the night rating is a mandatory qualification to achieve before embarking on your CPL/IR.

The course consists of a minimum five hours flight training plus ground instruction, including five solo take off and landings.

* to carry passengers at night, then the daytime rule of three take-offs and landings in the previous 90 days applies and must include one of each at night.
